How the Golden State Warriors Also Build Success Off the Court

Posted by Kendall Fisher, Executive Producer and Host of The NetSuite Podcast

Today, the Golden State Warriors are so dominant in the NBA it’s easy to forget they weren’t always this good. Back in 2013, the franchise was struggling to find success on and off the court. They hadn’t won a championship in 38 years, and they hadn’t secured the necessary tools to help the business side of the organization scale and succeed.

On this episode of “The NetSuite Podcast, we sat down with Chief Financial Officer of the Golden State Warriors, Jennifer Cabalquinto, who came on in 2013 to assist with some wins in the back office while the team was busy earning a championship title. Cabalquinto discusses how the organization has grown since her indoctrination as CFO five years ago and how she’s helped lead the finance team through an unprecedented business growth and a complete system revamp in relatively a short period of time.

Cabalquinto stresses that an important factor to the Warriors’ overall success—on and off the court—is having a business management system that allows for scaling, transparency and integration. Once the Warriors partnered with NetSuite, the organization implemented financial modules that allowed them to spend more time analyzing funding and day-to-day operations—all of which has proven to be tremendously useful as the team builds out a 100% privately funded stadium.

“NetSuite has the ability to handle all the streams, all the billing cycles, and all the different revenue recognition rules, Cabalquinto explains. “[That extra time we get] we can now put into analysis.
